Indestructible coating – literally unbreakable!
What do truck bedliners, oil platforms in the Persian Gulf, and bulletproof vests have in common? The answer is indestructible coating. Indestructible coatingcame to fame as a viral sensation when a video clip was released where a watermelon was made indestructible with the coating, and dropped from 45 meters: amazingly, not only did the watermelon remain unharmed, it bounced. However, indestructible coating has so many more uses than fruit protection; originally designed to protect vehicles, indestructible coating has uses in sectors from heavy industrial and agricultural to marine and offshore.
In this article we will take a closer look into the benefits and applications of indestructible coating, briefly explain the coating formula and of course, tell you how you can get your hand in the indestructible paint in Qatar.
More than unbreakable -the 7 reasons to consider indestructible paint
Not only is indestructible coating strong and flexible, it also brings many more benefits to a project. Because of the properties of the coating and its application, indestructible coating also provides:
- Fast return to service time – touch dry in seconds like traditional polyurea
- Water- and airtight – prevents corrosion and resists water
- No cracking, splitting, or warping – extreme durability
- Cures in any shape applied – allows creativity and functionality
- High abrasion- and impact resistance
- Chemical resistance
- No VOCs, no CFCs, no solvents – environmentally friendly
Indestructible coating – how it’s made
Indestructible coating is a proprietary blend of a coating called polyurea. The coating is essentially a combination of an isocyanate and a polyol resin, however, the exact composition is kept secret. The polyol works like a plasticiser, and when the two components are combined they react resulting in a long chain molecule. It is these chains that are responsible for the coating’s indestructible properties: all tangled up together, they make the coating hard and impenetrable, but because the chains can stretch out and return to place, it retains its flexibility. This gives the paint incredible tensile strength and tear resistance.
Indestructible coating now and in the future
Indestructible coating is usually a hot sprayed polyurea, which dries in seconds to minutes. Note that it can also be modified into a brush applied paint. The process is time sensitive because, once the 2 components of the coating are combined, the reaction begins immediately and cannot be reversed. Due to this, the coating application requires a special spray gun. The two components are pressurised then pumped into the gun through heated hoses. They are combined and sprayed at the same moment. This means that there is only seconds from the moment of spraying to having a dry surface.

Indestructible coating is applied on vehicles to increase durability and reduce costs.
The ease of application and desirable qualities of the coating mean it finds applications in all industries from agriculture and machinery to marine and military sectors.
A few of the most common uses for indestructible paint include: tank linings, roofing membranes, parking lots, industrial machinery, boat deck ramps and cargo holds as well as silos and feed containers.
One of the best examples of the current use of the coating are military applications. For example the Pentagon has its exterior walls coated in order to protect the building and its occupants from shrapnel, the main cause of injury in a explosion. It is also used in bulletproof vests to catch and contain bullet fragments when the bullet breaks apart on impact.
Indestructible paint in the future
The future applications of indestructible coating also focus on improving the uses in the military sector. Later on the uses can be expanded to construction and engineering; indestructible coating may become a standard for high rise buildings and heavy duty vehicles such as aircrafts. The coating would offer game changing protection from natural disasters and man-made explosions.
